How To Upgrade Your Windows 8.1 Or Windows 7 PC To Windows 10 Right Now!

Windows 10 is officially launched and it's already on its way to many people's computers or devices. If you are eligible, you can go ahead and upgrade your Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 computer or device to Windows 10, either by using the reservation app, or theMedia Creation Tool offered by Microsoft. If you are not satisfied with how the reservation app works and the fact that it is slow to provide you with an upgrade, then the Media Creation Tool is your only chance of getting Windows 10 today. Here's how to use it to upgrade your Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 computer, today:

Things To Keep In Mind

Before you decide whether or not to upgrade to Windows 10, be sure to read the Windows 10 Specifications on the Microsoft website, and review its system requirements. Windows 10 demands the following:
  • Processor: 1 GHz or faster, single core or multi-core
  • RAM: 1 GB for the 32-bit version or 2GB for the 64-bit one
  • Free hard disk space: 16 GB for the 32-bit version or 20 GB for the 64-bit version
  • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver
  • A Microsoft account and Internet access
During the upgrade, Windows 10 automatically checks your product key, so there's no need for you to enter it again.
You also need to have a working Internet connection available, so that Windows 10 can download its installation files as well as double check your Microsoft account details and download the latest updates available.
If you used the reservation app to start the upgrade, then all the installation files required for Windows 10 are already downloaded on your hard drive, so you can just skip to the next section of this guide.
If you didn't get the reservation app or if it didn't yet allow you to start the upgrade, you can fallback to the Media Creation Tool. For information on where to get it and how to use it, check the first two sections of this guide: How To Download Windows 10 And Create Your Own Installation Media. Once you've downloaded and ran Media Creation Tool, all you need to do is select the option called "Upgrade this PC now".

Once you've pressed Next, the Windows 10 installation files are downloaded. When they are all ready, you can go ahead and begin the actual upgrade process.
Note that, no matter if you use the reservation app or the Media Creation Tool, once you begin the upgrade, the steps you'll need to walk through are all identical.

Also, you need to decide whether to let apps use your advertising ID for experiences across apps. For each type of information, you can use the appropriate switch in order to send it or not.
